Guide & Documentation

Cryptographic Hash Generator & Time-Ordered UUID v7 Studio

Generate cryptographically secure UUID v4, time-ordered UUID v7, ULID, and NanoID strings. Compute MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-512, and HMAC signatures in your browser with zero server roundtrips.

How to Generate Identifiers & Hashes

01

Generate Unique Identifiers

Instantly produce cryptographically random UUID v4, millisecond-ordered UUID v7, or compact 128-bit ULIDs.

02

Compute Cryptographic Hashes

Input text strings or payload secrets to compute standard SHA-256, SHA-512, MD5, and HMAC hashes via Web Crypto API.

03

Copy with One Click

Click the copy badge next to any generated identifier or hash digest to paste into code, SQL, or headers.

Identifier & Hash Capabilities

UUID v7 (Time-Ordered)

Database-friendly sequential UUIDs that eliminate B-Tree index fragmentation in PostgreSQL and MySQL.

ULID & NanoID Formats

URL-safe, lexicographically sortable 26-character identifiers compatible with distributed microservices.

HMAC Secret Key Hashing

Generate verifiable keyed HMAC signatures for webhook validation and API request authentication.

Unique Identifier Best Practices

  • §1Prefer UUID v7 or ULID over UUID v4 for database primary keys to prevent index cache thrashing.
  • §2Do not use MD5 or SHA-1 for cryptographic security or password hashing — use SHA-256/SHA-512 with HMAC.
  • §3Never generate identifiers using Math.random(); always rely on crypto.getRandomValues().

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I use UUID v7 instead of UUID v4?
UUID v7 encodes a Unix timestamp in its most significant bits. This makes records insert in chronological order, dramatically improving database index performance compared to totally random v4 UUIDs.
Are these hashes calculated securely?
Yes, all hashing and identifier generation uses the browser's native window.crypto Web Crypto API. No data is sent over the network.
What is an HMAC?
HMAC (Hash-based Message Authentication Code) is a specific type of message authentication code involving a cryptographic hash function in combination with a secret key.
